151186855February 19 - United States Ambassador to Malaysia Paul W Jones has claimed that a lot can be learned from the "inspirational" Malaysian Paralympians that bought home medals from London 2012.


"We're learning from them and learning more about Malaysia and it's inspirational to see how they overcome obstacles in life and overcoming barriers," said Jones, speaking at the Consular Leadership Day held at the US Embassy in Malaysia.

Archery silver medallist Hasihin Sanawi and shot put bronze medallist Muhammad Ziyad Zoklkefli were honoured at the ceremony along with other Malaysian Paralympic athletes for their achievements at the Games.

"The success of the Malaysian team caught the attention of the world and the spirit of how to overcome obstacles in life and overcome barriers is something we can learn," said Jones.

"It's inspirational to see the level of physical experience in sports and the spirit of equality, it's a great lesson for all of us to incorporate in our everyday lives."

The two Paralympic medallists were nominated for the Sport's Writers Association of Malaysia Athlete of the Year award today, which was won by Olympic diving bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong.
