British Gymnastics commissioned the unique artwork to celebrate the achievements of London 2012 medallist Purvis and Olympian Tunney as they head to the competition at the Echo Arena Liverpool to defend their national titles on March 22-24.

The home Games proved to be particularly successful for the pair.

Purvis, a three-time British all around champion and world and European medallist, was part of the bronze medal-winning men's squad and competed in the all around competition with teammate Kristian Thomas.

Meanwhile, Tunney was Team GB's youngest athlete at the Games, aged 15, when she helped the team qualify in fifth place and made it to the individual all around final with a score of 56.391.

In the team final, she contributed scores of 14.866 on vault and 14.766 on uneven bars toward the British team's sixth place finish, and finished in thirteenth place in the all around final with a score of 56.932.


Purvis explained that he is already excited to be back battling to defend his crowns.

"The British Championship in 2012 was an amazing event, the arena is world class and the crowds hugely supportive which built us up very nicely for the Olympics – I can't wait to be back again in 2013."

His words were echoed by Tunney, who said: "Winning the senior British title is one of the best moments of my career and to do it in Liverpool a very special moment for me.

"Following the Games I am now living in the city and so hope this year the crowd can give the same kind of support, and I can be up there in contention again."
