January 31 - The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) has unveiled the Velux Group as the title sponsor of the men's European Championship, which is being co-hosted by Denmark and Poland later in the year.

The deal with the Danish window company, the financial terms of which have not been disclosed, will see the event renamed the 2013 CEV Velux Volleyball European Championship – Men, with the tournament set to take place from September 20 until 29.

Velux already has connections with sport as the title sponsor of the Velux European Handball Federation (EHF) Champions League tournament.

"We are extremely pleased with the partnership we have entered with the Velux Group especially since this company has a long experience in sponsoring major sports events that have regularly turned into a terrific success," CEV President André Meyer said.

"Via this sponsorship agreement we feel even more confident that the EuroVolley 2013 in Denmark and Poland will raise the profile of the European Championship to unprecedented heights thereby setting the tone also for the next editions in the years to come."

The continental tournament attracts the best volleyball players in Europe, with European champions Serbia and Olympic champions Russia set to compete for the title alongside, Italy, Belarus, Greece, Belgium, France, Slovakia, Turkey, Latvia, Finland, the Netherlands, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, as well as the hosts Denmark and Poland.

"Volleyball is hugely popular in many of our key markets," Velux managing director Michael K Rasmussen said.

"The sponsorship of the CEV Volleyball European Championship – men in 2013 is a wonderful opportunity to expand our sponsorship portfolio with a sport that is energetic, passionate and one of the most widely-played sports in the world."
