Franco FalicinelliDecember 30 - International Boxing Association (AIBA) President C K Wu has appointed Franco Falicinelli as the new European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) President.

The appointment comes after Dr Humbert Furgoni decided to resign from the position shortly after the conclusion of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The appointment means that Falicinelli also becomes one an AIBA vice-president as per the approval of the AIBA Executive Committee.

Wu, who is also an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, believes Falicinelli will provide a major contribution to the world of boxing in his new role.

"As I have full confidence in your leadership and in your long management experience of a boxing organisation, I believe that AIBA and EUBC will receive a great and valuable contribution from you", said Wu in a congratulatory letter to Falicinelli.

Falicinelli himself admitted he is delighted to take on the challenge.

"It is a great honour for me to have been appointed as AIBA vice president and to lead the European Boxing Confederation," said the 67-year-old from Italy.

"With no doubt, it is one of the greatest recognitions I have ever received throughout my 50-year career in boxing."

Falcinelli has also decided to resign from his position of chairman of the AIBA Technical and Rules Commission to fully concentrate on AIBA and EUBC matters.

Helmut Ranze of Germany has now replaced Falicinelli as AIBA Technical and Rules Commission chairman.
