Ron Harvey_17-04-12April 17 - Ron Harvey of the Long Beach Rowing Association has qualified for London 2012 after an uncontested final of the arms and shoulders men's singles sculls at the United States' trials in Chula Vista, California.

Harvey (pictured) rowed the course in 5min 12.22sec and will now go to London pending official approval by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

The nine-time national team member was a competitor at the first ever adaptive rowing Paralympic event in Beijing 2008, when he came fifth.

"I'm very excited to go to London," said Harvey, who has two bronze and one silver World Championship medal to his name.

"I think it's going to be a great event and I'm looking forward to racing there and hopefully bringing home a medal.

"It's nice to have the trials over.

"I can really focus on my training and work on getting some more speed by August."

Harvey is under no illusions as to the challenge ahead in London, where he will come up against Britain's arms and shoulders single sculler Tom Aggar, who won in 2008 and is also a quadruple world champion.

"It's going to be a very strong [field in London]," he said.

"The level of competition goes up every year.

"I know that Aggar has been dominating for years, and I'm sure he really wants to win on his home course.

"Everyone was closing the gap on him last year, challenging him.

"I expect that there will be some very fast racing."

The US has also qualified in the legs, trunk and arms four with coxswain, with the crew set to be named on April 30.

The US will hope to qualify in the women's arms and shoulders single sculls and the trunk and arms mixed double sculls at the final Paralympic qualification regatta from May 4 until 6 in Belgrade, Serbia.
