Matt Skelhon_12-04-12April 12 - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Cup has got underway today in Szczecin, Poland, with 139 shooters battling for places at this summer's Paralympic Games in London.

The first of the ten events taking place will be the R3 mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH1, with world number one and Beijing 2008 Paralympics gold medallist Matt Skelhon (pictured) of Britain expected to achieve gold alongside compatriot Nathan Milgate.

World champion Andrey Lebedinsky of Russia will then be favourite to claim the air pistol standard SH1, before the falling target pistol event.

The P2 women's 10m air pistol SH1, R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 and falling target rifle SH1 are taking place tomorrow.

British world number one Pam Grainger and Russian world champion Marina Klimenchenko will likely battle it out for the P2 title, while two more Britons, Richard Davies and Adam Fontain, will be front runners in the R4.

The United States' Eric Hollen and Russian Paralympic silver medallist Sergey Malyshev will resume their rivalry in the P1 men's 10m air pistol SH1.

Another British pair, James Bevis and Ryan Cockbill, are favourites for the R5 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 as the highest ranked shooters in the discipline.

In the R1 men's 10m air rifle standing SH1, Milgate, Skelhon and German Norbert Gau, a Beijing 2008 silver medallist, will face off.

This will be the fourth year in a row that the IPC Shooting World Cup has been held in Poland, with 24 National Paralympic Committees sending competitors to battle it out for places at London 2012.

This summer's Paralympic shooting will take place at the Royal Artillery Barracks in London from August 30 to September 6.
