IPC logo_10_FebFebruary 12 - To coincide with the 200 days to go landmark until the start of London 2012, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is launching a new look website which is due to go live tomorrow.

Visitors to the site – www.paralympic.org – as well as Paralympians will have the chance to take part in the Paralympic Torch Relay in August.

In addition to hours of footage from previous Paralympic Games, the site integrates the latest news as well as thousands of images of Paralympic athletes in action.

Xavier Gonzalez, the IPC's chief executive, said: "The new-look IPC website, powered by Atos, brings together masses of information and content in one convenient place and we are delighted to launch it close to 200 days to go to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

"The IPC is one of the few international governing bodies who have historical results dating back to the first Games.

"Through utilising Atos's [the IT company behind the site] know-how and technology, the new site aims to make these more presentable to users, whilst also utilising the latest data including world rankings and records for all IPC sports."

Atos chief executive for Iberia, Olympics & Paralympics, Patrick Adiba, added: "With 8.5 billion PCs, smart phones and tablets predicted to be connected to the internet by 2012, the Paralympic website has never been so important.

"It will enable fans to follow the events as they happen wherever they are.

"We are delighted to have worked with the IPC to launch the website and are absolutely committed to continuing our long-standing collaboration."

IPC's international partner Allianz, the global financial service provider, has a 'Believe in Yourself' section which focuses on the motivation and strength of Paralympians.

"During our partnership with the Paralympic Movement, Allianz has been inspired by the remarkable performances of Paralympic athletes," said Joseph Gross, the head of group market management at Allianz.

The IPC will be searching for five inspirational individuals and ten Paralympians from Monday to carry the Paralympic flame during the overnight torch relay on August 28 and 29 from Stoke Mandeville, the birthplace of the Games in 1948, to the opening ceremony of the Games.

The public has until Wednesday February 29 to nominate individuals to carry the torch.

The IPC will select successful candidates who display the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
