imgresMay 4 - Gold Coast 2018 have appointed three general managers to the key areas of marketing and communications, venues and operations and finance and business services with the trio set to play crucial roles as the Organising Committee gears up to host the Commonwealth Games.

The marketing and communications manager will be Andrew Woodward, previously been vice-president of public relations at Visa Inc.

Woodward has over 20 years senior communications management experience in global major events, sport and tourism marketing.

He has worked internationally and domestically on the Olympic Games, including Sydney 2000, where he was chief of staff for media information in the Main Press Centre, as well as on the FIFA World Cup and Rugby World Cup in various capacities.

Woodward is joined by Ian Whitehead, who is the new venues and operations manager.

Whitehead joins the Organising Committee from Stadiums Queensland, where he held the role of general manager of operations.

He has over 20 years of executive level experience in the planning, construction and management of key sporting infrastructure, including commercial operations, and was also a major contributor to the development of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Candidature City File.

Accountant Helen Moore takes up the third key position of finance and business services manager.

Moore has over 20 years senior leadership experience in the Government sector having recently worked with Gold Coast City Council as the director of organisational services.

Her experience as Tourism Queensland's executive director of corporate services is directly relevant to her areas of responsibility which include: finance; information management; human resources; procurement; legal; and risk management.

She has also held senior roles with Seqwater and Port of Brisbane Corporation.

The new managers will report directly to Gold Coast chief executive Mark Peters, who played a leading role in appointing the three new general managers.

The trio are set to be part of the delegation that meets Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Prince Tunku Imran and chief executive Mike Hooper when the pair visits the Gold Coast in June for a progress update.

The visit will be the CGF's first official trip to the Gold Coast since the city won the right to stage the Commonwealth Games last November when they defeated sole rival Hambantota, Sri Lanka, by 43 votes to 27 at the CGF General Assembly in St Kitts and Nevis.
