There will, however, be three marathon runners, Disi Dieudonne and Jean Pierre Mvuyekure in the men's race and Epiphanie Nyirabarame in the women's.

Joining them will be five 10,000 metres runners, Eric Sebahire, Syliaque Ndayikengurukiye and Felicien Muhitira for the men and Claudette Mukasakindi and Clementine Mukandanga for the women; a single 5,000m runner in the shape of Pontien Ntawuyirushintege; and two 800m runners, Emmanuel Ntakiyimana and Thimothee Bagina.

According to Times Sport, Jean Pierre Ndacyayisenga, technical director for the Rwanda Athletics Federation, said the selected runners "have already started individual preparations and training from different places and we hope they will represent the country well".

He added the Federation is confident the athletes will perform well at Glasgow 2014.
