As the Baton continues its journey - which got underway at Buckingham Palace in London on October 9 - across 70 nations and territories, it will arrive at Cardiff Airport before spending the next seven days in Wales.

It will pass through 11 local authorities and cover some 731 miles as it is held by 177 Baton bearers, including stars such as Olympic and world champion sprinter Iwan Thomas, television presenter Alex Jones and tenor Wynne Evans.

It will visit some of the nation's most famous landmarks, including Dylan Thomas' boathouse in Laugharne, the summit of Snowdon and the coastal scenery of St David's Peninsula, with a series of sporting and cultural events taking place alongside to celebrate the Baton Relay and all that is Welsh.

"When the Baton arrives in Wales there will be only 60 days to go until the start of Glasgow 2014 and having the curtain-raiser to the Games on our doorstep provides everyone with the chance to feel a part of it," Chris Jenkins, chief executive of Commonwealth Games Wales, said.

"There will be a team of over 200 athletes set to represent us on the world stage on the 23rd July, some of whom are coming out to meet the Welsh public during the relay, and to witness a wave of support from the nation for Team Wales over the next seven days will no doubt act as a great inspiration for them."
