March 21 - Netball Fiji has called on the International Netball Federation to help secure a place at Glasgow 2014 ©Getty Images Netball Fiji has made a plea to the International Netball Federation (INF) for help in trying to secure a place at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, as the issue of the country's participation in team events rumbles on.

Speaking to FBC Sports, Netball Fiji vice-president Vivian Koster confirmed they have made a submission to the INF, in the hope it can help sway the decision of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) on whether to allow Fiji's netballers to take part in the Games this summer.

"They (INF] are meeting in Los Angeles," said Koster.

"It's a regular meeting on their part this weekend and we want to send a submission to them.

"We have already gotten in touch with the Oceania President, Tina Brown, and indicated to her and the rest of the Oceania membership that we want to be in Glasgow."

The move comes as the authorities in Fiji continue to push hard for their netball and rugby sevens sides to be allowed to compete at Glasgow 2014, following the country's readmission into the Commonwealth last Friday after being suspended in 2009 due to the seizure of power by its military Government led by Frank Bainimarama.

Bainimarama has subsequently given in to international pressure and promised to hold elections this September, which has allowed Fijian athletes to return to the Commonwealth Games after missing out on Delhi 2010.

However, the qualification periods for the netball and rugby sevens competitions have passed, leaving Fiji out in the cold.

Earlier this week, Reg Sanday, President of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), wrote to CGF chief executive Mike Hooper and President Tunku Imran, calling for Fiji's netball and men's rugby sevens sides to be allowed to compete in Glasgow.

At the time, Hooper told insidethegames no decision had been reached on Fiji's participation and when contacted today, the CGF said discussions were still ongoing.

Fiji's netball team are currently ranked seventh in the world but have failed to medal at a Commonwealth Games.

No one from the INF was available for comment.

The Commonwealth Games are due to begin on July 23, with the Closing Ceremony on August 3.
