February 20 - Additional tickets for the netball finals at Glasgow 2014 have sold out within three hours claim organisers ©Getty Images Glasgow 2014 has announced the extra 4,000 tickets for the netball finals that went on sale today at 11am GMT sold out in three hours.

The announcement of additional tickets came yesterday after organisers moved the gold and bronze medal matches, scheduled for the last day of competition at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday, August 3, to the newly-built SSE Hydro from the original 4,000-capacity Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC).

Concerns had been raised that many fans would miss out on attending the finals, as netball has proved to be one of the most popular sports at the Commonwealth Games since its introduction at Kuala Lumpur 1998.

But, a successful test transition, involving a team of 80 working to remove the boxing ring, floor seating and signs for the boxing competition at the Games, plus laying the netball floor, installing goal posts and reconfiguring the surroundings has resulted in a decision to relocate the finals to the Hydro.

"It's a real thrill to see tickets for this world-class showcase for netball being snapped up so quickly," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.

"What a great vote of support for Glasgow 2014 and the sport of netball and brings with it a fantastic opportunity to see the game played at the highest levels by its global stars."

The SECC will remain as the host venue for all preliminary and pool matches in the netball competition.

There are a limited number of tickets still available for badminton, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby sevens, squash, weightlifting and Para-sport powerlifting, while there is also limited availability for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Tickets can be purchased online via the Glasgow 2014 Ticketing website or by contacting the ticket hotline on 0844 826 2014.
