london 2012_29-10-12October 29 - Enthusiasm for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has dramatically increased on the back of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics according a new report published today.

The report, which was released by Glasgow 2014 Games Partners, highlights the key milestones for the Commonwealth Games over the last six months, including the launch of the official mascot Clyde last month and the recent Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordination Commission review that praised the preparations so far.

Key statistics also demonstrate the high enthusiasm for the event, with interest across Scotland in buying tickets for Glasgow 2014 doubling since the start of London 2012.

More than 40 per cent of Scots saying the experience had made them more excited for the Commonwealth Games.

Four Official Glasgow 2014 Ambassadors have already been unveiled in the last six months in the form of cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, comedian Billy Connolly and actor Martin Compston.

In addition, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and the Commonwealth Arena have already opened ahead of hosting the Glasgow 2014 track cycling and badminton respectively.

"The last six months have been a real game-changer for the Organising Committee," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.

"We have reached a number of milestones and built significant momentum as we get closer to the Games.

"The recent CGF Coordination Commission highlighted the progress we have made in recent months and the opportunity we have to deliver an outstanding Commonwealth Games.

"We remain confident but not complacent and focused on the task in hand.

"There is a lot of hard work to be done by the Organising Committee, our Games Partners and our stakeholders over the next two years to ensure we stage a Games of which Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth can be proud."

Scotland's Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison has also praised the work done on the Commonwealth Games in the last six months.

"What a fantastic six months these have been," she said.

"From the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, to the opening of two new key venues and of course meeting our new mascot Clyde, we have seen great success.

"Building on these successes, the Scottish Government is committed to developing a legacy for the whole of Scotland, including a new £10 million ($16 million/€13 million) fund to create or improve places in local communities where people can go to get active.

"However, we must continue to work just as hard as we race towards 2014 to ensure Glasgow, and Scotland, hosts a Commonwealth Games everyone can be proud of."

Meanwhile, Glasgow 2014 already has ten official sponsors in Longines, SSE, Harper Macleod, Search Consultancy, Ernst & Young, Atos, Dell, Toshiba TEC, AG Barr and RGS.
