Out of these, over 4,000 youths are students from 47 primary and secondary national schools as well as junior colleges.

Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, stated his appreciation for the performers, teachers, supporting staff and parents who are all involved in helping with rehearsals to ensure that the Ceremonies delighted spectators from around the world.  

Ng said: "Our students, teachers and the production team have put a lot of effort into their performance items, including spending part of their school holidays for the rehearsals.

"With their dedication and hard work, I am confident that our students will put up a great show and make the Opening Ceremony an enjoyable, meaningful and unforgettable experience for the spectators and audiences around the world."

With over 7,000 youth performers in the Ceremonies and a team of 23 choreographers under him, chief choreographer, Aaron Khek, has the task of pulling all the performance segments together seamlessly.

Another challenge that Khek faces is to connect with and inspire the youth performers and to keep them motivated until the big show on August 14.

The Opening Ceremony at the Marina Bay in Singapore will feature the largest combination of different dance styles in a show.
