June 13 - Steve Cram (pictured), now better known as a BBC commentator, is to celebrate the silver jubilee of his extraordinary season in 1985, when he set three world records in only 19 days with a special charity dinner that will be attended by several athletics legends, including former rivals Sebastian Coe, Said Aouita and John Walker.

The proceeds from the dinner, at the InterContinental Hotel, Park Lane in London on July 15, will all go to children's charity Comrades of Children Overseas (COOO).

Other big names due to attend include Dame Kelly Holmes, Michael Johnson, Paula Radcliffe and Bernard Lagat.

Cram said: "Back in 1985, I was in the form of my life and the races I competed in during that period were quite incredible.

"It will be wonderful to be reunited with Said Aouita, Seb Coe and John Walker, who were truly great athletes and have all become good friends.

"1985 was a magical year for sport in general and we’ve got some exciting plans to bring all of that to life on 15 July.

"It’s going to be a very enjoyable and very memorable evening."

Cram, who had  finished second to Coe in the 1500m at the previous year's Los Angeles Olympics, wrote himself into athletics legend in 1985.

The first of his remarkable records was achieved in a nail-biting 1500m in Nice on July 16, when he beat Aouita by just four hundredths of a second to set a new mark of 3min 29.67sec.

Only 11 days later in Oslo, Cram (pictured) defeated Coe, smashing his mile world record in the process to run 3:46.32.

Finally, on August 4, in a race against the clock in Budapest, he took the 2,000m world record away from the Walker with a time of 4:51.39.

Cram said: "As I get close to my 50th birthday, I am pleased to say that although I may not break any more world records, athletics is still very much part of my life.

"Commentating on major championships for the BBC is a real privilege and in October I am planning to lace up my running shoes again for the inaugural Kielder Marathon."

Coe said: "I am delighted to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Steve's mile world record.

"I am pleased that I'll be closer to him on the night than I managed to be during the race.

"Steve is one of the nicest and most normal all-time greats I know."
