May 18 - Stefan Bruckner (pictured right) has been appointed as the new marketing director of Munich's bid to host the 2018 Olympics and Paralympics, it was announced today by chief executive Willy Bogner.

Bruckner’s role is expected to be crucial in coordinating an integrated marketing communications strategy for the Bavarian capital’s bid.

Bruckner brings a wealth of experience to Munich 2018, with proven pedigree in a variety of different roles with Deutsche Sport-Marketing (DSM).

He has already advised extensively on marketing concepts relating to the Olympic Games and sport in Germany.

He will also be joined by another experienced DSM employee, Christiane Krauter, who will be actively involved in marketing Munich 2018 locally as it bids against rivals Annecy and Pyeongchang.

Bogner said: "With Stefan Bruckner and the DSM team, we are bringing marketing experts on board who have extensive experience in the Olympic Games sector and who can give a further boost to the Munich 2018 bid in the world of business.

"Together, we will bring the message of Munich’s friendly Games to an even wider audience."

By taking on Bruckner, Munich 2018 has clearly defined its promotion and integrated marketing strategy, as it intensifies its relationship with DSM, which, as the official marketing agency for the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), DSM has already contributed its considerable Olympic expertise to the Munich bid, and is now lending support through the provision of staff.

DSM managing director, Axel Achten, will also play a greater role in the Munich bid through this collaboration.

He said: "Supporting the Bid Committee is a challenge that we are extremely happy to take on.

"We are confident that, together with the Bid Committee, we will succeed in making Munich’s dream of hosting the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games come true."
