April 27 – The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced the appointment of American Darryl Seibel (pictured with Michelle Kwan) in the newly created role of Head of Olympic Media and Communications Strategy.

Seibel, who was previously Chief Communications Officer for the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), will be responsible for setting strategy and developing programmes to raise awareness and support for the BOA and for Britain's athletes both at home and abroad.

Seibel will help the organisation make the most of the unique opportunities offered by the organisation’s status as host National Olympic Committee in 2012.

He will work closely with BOA partners, including London 2012 and UK Sport, as well as news organisations in Britain and around the world when he begins his full-time duties with the organisation in May.

Seibel said: "I am thrilled to have been given the chance to join the British Olympic Association at this exciting time.

"I was lucky enough to work with Team GB on a short-term basis at the Vancouver Games and enjoyed the experience enormously so I’m delighted to now extend that relationship.

"The 2012 Games represent a once-in-a-generation chance to transform Olympic sport across the country and I’m determined to help the BOA to make the most of this unique opportunity."

Seibel brings with him a wealth of experience and has worked at seven Olympic Games.

He will be serving as an executive on loan from 776 Original Marketing, a sports marketing and strategic communications firm he helped found in 2009.

It is expected he will return to the firm as managing partner following the London 2012 Olympic Games.
