The new Advisory Committee will oversee research into low carbon and renewable energy, and will report to the Pyeongchang 2018 Environment Committee which was established in January.  

The new Advisory Committee comprises 10 sustainability and low carbon experts drawn from leading research institutions and companies including Samsung C&T Corporation, The Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO) and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

The Advisory Committee will be responsible for developing measures that reduce carbon emissions at venues that feature in Pyeongchang 2018’s Olympic Winter Games plan.

It will also oversee the implementation of Pyeongchang’s sustainability and low carbon plan should the city be awarded the right to host the Winter Games in 2018.

"Our Games Plan highlights how we will develop and build venues that will minimise carbon emissions, and we will utilise the latest technologies and methods to ensure that this commitment is fulfilled."
