February 25 - This year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi has suffered another setback after Australia's discus world champion Dani Samuels (pictured) said she is prepared to skip the event over security fears.

Samuels, who won the world title at Berlin last August, said missing the Games would not be an issue for her.

"If the danger is extremely high and they’re telling people not to go I would make that sacrifice," Samuels said.

"Hopefully, I’ll have a long career and there will be plenty more Commonwealth Games.

"Waiting another four years won’t kill me."

Security in India has become a burning issue after a recent bombing at a restaurant in the western Indian city of Pune, which killed 16 people.

"I understand and have seen a lot of the media things and think my family and friends are more worried about it than I am,” Samuels said.

“I know safety is a very high priority, but people aren’t going to be sent over there if it’s not 100 per cent safe. It is only sport."

Samuels joins a growing list of stars set to miss the Games, which open on October 3.

Britain's world heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis has already pulled out because the event does not fit into her schedule.

Britain's gymnastics squad, including world champion Beth Tweddle, are also set to miss out on the event because it clashes with the World Championships in Rotterdam.

The Isle of Man's Mark Cavendish, winner of six stages of last year's Tour de France, has also said that he will not compete.

Jamaica's Usain Bolt, the triple Olympic and world champion, is also expected to skip the event because it does not fit into his schedule.
