October 10 - Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Mike Fennell, who had only last month expressed concern at the slow preparation for the 2010 Games in New Delhi, is now satisfied with the progress, organisers claimed today.

Fennell gave his approval to the intensified preparations for the October 3-14 Games during a series meetings of the CGF, secretary general of the organising committee Lalit Bhanot said.

He said: "Fennell expressed satisfaction in the meeting and mentioned that there were lot of progress in the preparations in the last few weeks.

"He also hoped that the venues of the event are going to be world class."

Bhanot said that a detailed presentation on various aspects of the Commonwealth Games was made during the meeting today.

Delegates from 70 countries due to compete in the Commonwealth Games have been visiting the facilities being built for next year's event, which is due to begin on October 3 and end on October 14.

Bhanot said: "All the delegates were happy with the hour-long presentation made by the organisers."

The slow pace of building work and security concerns are set to dominate the CGF Assembly, which is due to be held in Delhi next week.

Bhanot said: "This Commonwealth Games will be the best ever Commonwealth Games.

"On this aspect, the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly is going to meet.

"We will assure them that all preparations and every thing will be done on time."

Delhi's Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit also claimed that the representatives from the countries, including Australia, Canada and England, who visited the Games sites were satisfied with what they have seen.

She said: “I think they have gone back happy.

"They had certain doubts which they wanted to be cleared."
