alt August 6 - Building work is now under way on all of the residential plots to be built for the Olympic Village, some of the buildings are even approaching their full height, making their mark on the London skyline.

Images released by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) today reveal the progress being made on the construction of the Village in East London.

Each of the 11 residential plots, which will include 2,818 new homes, is the size of a football pitch and made up of six to eight buildings built in a rectangular layout around a courtyard area.

Other work progressing well includes the site of the Chobham Academy, an education campus to be built within the Olympic Village with spaces for 1,800 students aged three to 19, and the installation of new electricity, gas, water, drainage and district heating services between the sites of the new housing blocks.

Ralph Luck, the director of property at ODA, said: "We are continuing to make good progress on the Olympic Village site and with construction work now underway on all residential plots we are seeing the building blocks of a brand new community for East London beginning to take shape.

"The strong start we have made on the Olympic Village site over the past year puts us firmly on track to deliver a high quality new development for generations to come.
