alt APPLICATIONS from three cities have been received for the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2011, a major build-up competition to the 2012 Olympics, it was announced today.

The cities of Gothenburg, Sweden, Leipzig, Germany and Paris, France are bidding the host the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2011.

Christian Milz, the director general of European Athletics said: “It is very encouraging for the value and brand of European Athletics to receive such high quality bids for our future events.

"All these cities have attended a Bidding seminar organised by European Athletics in Lausanne in March, so they know exactly what is required from our side, in order to continue to make the events a success."

"The Championships are the jewels in our crown and are a vital platform for European Athletics to communicate our messages and value around the continent...we have the tradition, expertise and leadership to continue to raise the bar for our championships.”

The decision on the venues of these Championships will be made after a thorough examination of the bidding documents, by the relevant experts within the organisation.

If and when a city passes this process, a site evaluation visit will then be carried out, led by European Athletics staff, along with a number of experts in the relevant areas of importance.

Only when a city has passed these two steps will they then be invited to make a presentation at the 118th European Athletics Council Meeting in Malta, on October 15, 2007.

The winning cities will then be announced after the Council Meeting.
