altJULY 21 - BRITAIN is to stage two handball tournaments in Sheffield to help the country's men and women's teams prepare for the 2012 Olympics.

The women's event will be held from October 16-18 and the men's a week later from October 23-25.

The events will give the British squads a good chance to see just how much progress they have made towards their long-term goal of being competitive on the world stage in time for the 2012 Olympics in London.

The women's competition will see Latvia, the Faroe Islands andTurkey in action alongside Britain, while the line-up for the men's event is to be announced shortly.

For the women's squad it will be a great chance to gauge their progress since finishing fourth in the European Challenge Trophy in Cyprus in March.

For the men it will be a chance to build on their performance in the prestigious Partille Cup in Sweden last month, where a largely under-21 side was unbeaten throughout.

Arrangements for ticket sales will be announced shortly.
