The Czech car maker is part of the Volkswagen Group, the Official Automotive Partner of Sochi 2014, who signed up as a Tier One sponsor in September 2009.

The special-edition Škoda Yeti Sochi, which is due to be available early next year, comes finished in candy white and is fitted with Sochi 2014 badging and a set of dark alloys.

The four-wheel drive model is powered by a 148bhp 1.8-litre TSI engine coupled to a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

The interior boasts a blue and black colour scheme, featuring Sochi 2014 logos.

There is contrasting blue stitching on the steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever, too.

"The Sochi Winter Olympics will be the showcase event in winter sports in the years ahead," said Winfried Vahland, the chief executive of Škoda.

"Our involvement will enable us to reach a broad international public both on location and through the media, resolutely strengthening our brand's recognition and image.

"We are delighted to support Winter Olympics for the first time ever.

"Our sponsoring shows what great achievements our company has made in recent years.

"It will strengthen our position in Russia and Škoda's brand's international standing.

"Also, our involvement is the perfect complement to our long-standing support for the Ice Hockey World Championship as main sponsor."

By 2018, Škoda is hoping to sell at least 1.5 million cars a year and the company sees Russia as an important growth market for achieving those figures.

"Russia is a pillar of our international growth plans and has a central importance for our 2018 growth strategy," said Vahland.

"This country is one of the world's strongest-growing market and offers tremendous potential for Škoda.

"We intend to resolutely continue our dynamic development of recent years.

"We will have more capacity in the future so as to further raise our sales in Russia."
