tom_daley_new_carJune 6 - British diving star Tom Daley has been given his first car, a Mini from Team GB and London Olympic Games sponsor BMW, and the teenage ace cannot wait to get behind the wheel of his new motor.

The Plymouth diver came to prominence at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 when he became Britain's youngest competitor at the age of just 14.

He then won the world 10 metre platform title at Rome in 2009 and claimed two gold medals at last year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Daley turned 17 last month and will learn to drive on the Mini Drivers training programme at Goodwood.

"Like every other 17-year-old I can't wait to get behind the wheel of my first car, but in my case having my driving licence will be a huge help in my training and preparation schedule for the Olympic Games," said Daley, who is still recovering from the loss of his father Rob last month to cancer.

BMW will be providing "efficient dynamic" diesel cars, hybrids and electric vehicles to transport athletes and officials in London next year.
