Sarah_RoblesApril 22 - Sarah Robles broke an American Collegiate Record at the National Weightlifting Championships on her debut at the event.

The record was previously held by Sydney 2000 medallist Cheryl Haworth, but Robles broke her own record of 144kg in the clean and jerk category before beating Haworth's record by lifting 146kg.

She lifted 256kg in total, five kilograms more than the 22-year-old managed at the 2010 World Championships.

There was also success for Shelbie Serpan, who claimed the silver medal in the division with a total of 181kg, with Carly Mauch and Jerilyn Smith lifting 170kg.

Mauch, as the lighter athlete, was awarded the bronze medal.

Steven Jarvis took gold in the 105kg division with a 155kg lift in the snatch and broke his own record in the clean and jerk with 185kg.

Reigning champion David Garcia took second, and won the clean and jerk with a 195kg lift, setting a new record in the process.

Fernando Reis took the 105+ division, beating Cameron Swart by more than 20kg, with George Beckham in third place.

Whitnee Maycock claimed the snatch title with 86kg in the 75kg division, whilst Samantha Zimmerman narrowly missed out with a lift of 84kg.

But Zimmerman lifted 108kg in the clean and jerk to beat Maycock, who managed 101kg.
