Pyeongchang_2018_sign_deal_with_SK_GroupDecember 29 - Korea's SK group is to sponsor the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter bid.


SK Group is one of Korea's top five business groups, with a portfolio of over 90 companies.

Sang-Kon Nam, head of the SK Group Corporate Contributions Office, visited the Pyeongchang 2018 Bid Committee headquarters in Seoul today to deliver a donation of KRW 800 million (£446,000/$690,000) as part of the new sponsorship agreement.

Nam said, "It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the SK Group, present this donation to Pyeongchang 2018.

"SK is proud to be a part of this campaign to bring the Winter Games to Korea for the first time and we will continue to support the Bid right through to the IOC Host City decision in Durban."

Pyeongchang are currently the favourites to be awarded the Games ahead of Annecy and Munich when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chooses the host city at its Session in Durban on July 6, 2011.

Yang Ho Cho, the chairman and chief executive of Pyeongchang 2018, said: "On behalf of the Pyeongchang 2018 Bid Committee, I would like to express my thanks to the SK Group for adding their support to the Bid.

"It is a great boost to our Bid campaign as we look forward to highlighting how our Bid and core concept of New Horizons can help the Olympic Movement reach new markets."
