China clinched their third consecutive Sudirman Cup with a 3-0 victory against South Korea on home soil in Suzhou.

The Chinese team survived a semi-final scare against Japan yesterday to prevail 3-2 at the mixed team badminton competition, but enjoyed a more comfortable day in the decider at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre.

Mixed doubles world champions and Olympic silver medallists Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong set the hosts on their way by coming from behind to beat Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung 18-21, 22-20, 21-8.

Seo and Chae led 19-16 and then 20-19 in the second game to give them match point, but they failed to take advantage.

Zheng insisted that "without this crowd we couldn’t have won, they gave us the encouragement we needed".

The Chinese pair also survived game and match points in two earlier ties at the Sudirman Cup.

Men's singles world number 10 Shi Yuqi proved too strong for opponent Lee Yun-gyu, who is 203 places further back in the Badminton World Federation world rankings.

Shi prevailed 21-13, 21-17.

Women's singles world number two An Se-young had to try and rescue South Korea's hopes against the Olympic champion Chen Yufei.

However, it was Chen who triumphed 21-16, 22-20 with a superb performance.

The victory provided China with a record-extending 13th Sudirman Cup title and their ninth from a possible 10.

Malaysia and Japan took bronze medals as beaten semi-finalists.
