The International University Sports Federation's (FISU) Healthy Campus Programme was the main talking point at the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) Strategic Dialogue Gala.

AUSF President Xue Yanqing highlighted the value of sport to the wellbeing of younger generations and encouraged more Asian universities to participate in the Programme.

University sport representatives came to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates for what was the third edition of the FISU-AUSF event.

"To develop a healthy campus at local, national, and global levels, leaders must take into account the interests of all stakeholders," said FISU development and healthy campus director Fernando Parente.

"Universities must cooperate at different levels but each of them must be considered with the same relevance."

Representatives from China, South Korea, Thailand, the UAE and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations University Sports Council, among others, shared their strategies and best practices in building a healthy campus.

Beijing University has launched a "smart campus" digital platform to promote the overall health improvement of students at multiple levels.

The Korean University Sports Board (KUSB) operates a similar technology-based approach for its campaigns.

"The aim of the campaign is to promote the value of sports and provide opportunities for students to experience a good quality of life through sports," said Dr Woong Yong Ha of KUSB.

Using sports leagues, championships and various social media channels, KUSB is trying to encourage both student athletes and regular students to get involved in sport.

"All the dreams, visions and strategies should not just be put on paper," said FISU Acting President Leonz Eder.

"Let's bring them together and act with climate change and sustainable goals in mind when we plan for a healthy campus."
