Turkey, Poland, Estonia, Nigeria and Argentina have been announced as hosts of the men’s basketball pre-qualifiers for next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has revealed that Istanbul in Turkey, Gliwice in Poland and Tallinn in Estonia will stage matches in the European tournament.

Lagos in Nigeria is set to hold the African event, while Argentina is expected to host the Americas competition, with the host city yet to be confirmed.

A host for the Asian qualifier will be revealed at a later date, FIBA said.

The pre-qualification events are set to be staged from August 12 to 20, with the five group winners earning spots in the Olympic qualification tournament due to be held in July 2024.

The announcement of the host nations by the FIBA Central Board meeting was made before the draw featuring 40 teams was conducted for the pre-qualifiers.

Hosts Argentina, who captured Olympic gold at Athens 2004 and bronze at Beijing 2008, have been drawn in Group A along with Cuba, Panama and The Bahamas in the Americas event, while Group B consists of Uruguay, Virgin Islands, Chile and Colombia.

Nigeria will hope to make home advantage count after being placed in Group A featuring Senegal, Mali and Uganda in the African tournament.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Guinea and Tunisia have been named in Group B.

The Asian tournament is set to see Chinese Taipei, South Korea, India and Bahrain compete in Group A and Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Syria battle it out in Group B.

A total of 16 nations have been split into four groups in the European event.

Estonia are scheduled to stage Group A where they are due to meet the Czech Republic, Macedonia and Israel, while Poland are due to hold Group B where they are poised to face Portugal, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The other two groups are set to be held in Turkey, with the hosts placed in Group C along with Ukraine, Bulgaria and Iceland.
