World Karate Federation (WKF) vice-president Nasser Alrazooqi has donated $50,000 (£40,000/€45,000) to the organisation's Guardian Girls Global Karate Project.

Alrazooqi's contribution is set to go towards supporting the financing of introducing the programme at the WKF's main events throughout 2023.

"The Guardian Girls Global Karate Project, created by the WKF, contributes to our goals of empowering women to protect themselves from all forms of violence by enabling them to practice karate," he said.

"It is a way to safeguard something that is more than wonderful.

"This project is great humanitarian work, and we will make our best to provide the required support to contribute to its success.

"We will endeavour to communicate with institutions and personalities to assist this excellent initiative."

It has already been presented at the WKF World Congress in Turkey, and competitions in Egypt and Guadalajara.

"On behalf of the karate family, I want to express my most sincere gratitude to Alrazooqi for his support of this initiative," said WKF President Antonio Espinós.

"We are convinced that the Guardian Girls Global Karate Project can contribute to creating a significant improvement in society; karate training provides all the required tools for women to combat gender-based violence.

"Mr Alrazooqi's contribution not only shows his tremendous kindness and profound human ideals; it also demonstrates the strength of the values of our sport and the wonderful support that this programme is receiving from the whole family of karate worldwide."

The Project was created by the WKF in conjunction with the United Nations Population Fund and the Koyamada International Foundation.

In the coming year, it is due to be introduced in all of the WKF's major events, including the Karate 1-Premier League legs in Egypt, Morocco, Japan, and Dublin, and the World Championships in Hungary.
