The Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) will be honouring the great masters of the Central American and Caribbean regions at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games and the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

The teachers and professors who have contributed to the development of taekwondo in the region throughout the five decades of PATU will be recognised.

They will be recognised at the sub-venue of the Dominican Republic from July 4 to 7, during which the taekwondo tournament of the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games will be held.

Juan Manuel López Delgado, President of PATU and vice-president of World Taekwondo, spoke on the importance of recognising the pioneers of the sport.

"Our intention with this recognition is to put order and recognize the great work within the Pan American taekwondo and taekwondo of each country and that these people who have given their lives, are recognized not only in the Hall of Fame, but in a more martial field," said Delgado.

"It is important to let the PATU community know that the presidents of the National Federations will also be recognized for their tireless work for the development of taekwondo in our continent.

"They are often forgotten by history and by the accelerated dynamics of high performance, but in this new administration we have to recognize the great work within PATU and within the National Federations."

PATU made history in November 2022 when they introduced the first generation of individuals to the Pan American Hall of Fame.

It was the first Continental Taekwondo Union to establish a Hall of Fame, which lead to World Taekwondo recognising them as the best continental institute.
