Last week it was time for another milestone in our preparations towards the inaugural European Para Championships in Rotterdam when ticket sales started.

Our event is a unique top sports event, in which the best athletes from 10 Paralympic sports compete for European titles.

However, we firmly believe in the importance of making this event accessible to as many people as possible.

In a literal- and figurative sense.

That is why we decided to look at ticketing in a special way.

A day ticket, which allows you to visit all sports in Rotterdam Ahoy, costs only €7.50 (£6.70/$8.30).

The outdoor venues and the "city centre courts" in the heart of Rotterdam are even accessible free of charge.

In this way, we hope to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the achievements of these top athletes and their ten unique, spectacular sports.

Our tournament director Jeroen Straathof, a former Olympic and Paralympic athlete in speed skating and cycling, said the following about it earlier this week; "This is a unique event organised for the first time in Europe.

"With Rotterdam Ahoy as the main venue, but also various center courts in the centre of Rotterdam, we bring the sport to the people.

"By jointly organising 10 European Championships, we can offer several sports a top-level sports platform.

"I therefore invite everyone to come and encourage these great athletes this summer."

That the city centre courts are freely accessible to the public will hopefully lead to full stands and therefore a truly top-class sporting experience.

As the venues are often located in densely populated areas with lots of tourists and shoppers, this should work out well!

There are also some special matches scheduled at these venues.

Think of boccia and wheelchair tennis finals at Schouwburgplein, a large square directly adjacent to the main shopping area of Rotterdam's city centre.

The Para-archery finals, also accessible free of charge, take place perhaps at the city's most beautiful venue.

Kop van Zuid is a place where everything that makes Rotterdam so beautiful and unique comes together; the skyline, the water (River Maas) and the weather elements.

At Kop van Zuid it is practically never windless!

I would like to appeal to every sports fan; come to Rotterdam from August 8 until 20 and experience top-class sport at the very highest level.

Get inspired and become part of our fast-growing Parasport movement!
