The Frenchman cruised across the line in sixth in the men's individual race with a time of 1hr 7min 39sec which was enough for the overall trophy.

He finished on 710 points to beat challenges from Belgium's Maximilien Drion du Chapois and Italian Robert Antoniolo on 591 and 573, respectively.

The race in Norway was won by Switerland's Remi Bonnet in 1:05:02 in front of Italian duo Davide Magnini and Matteo Eydallin who both finished 48 seconds later.

Magnini edged out his compatriot to ensure he took the silver medal.

"It was a hot day, I had to force myself to drink during the race," said Bonnet.

"In the end, I had crampons, but the shape is crazy, and if you have good legs, you can do everything.

"It's a very unique place for the skimo, and it feels great to win here."

In the women's rankings, Anselmet's compatriot Emily Harrop took another step towards the crown as she triumphed in Tromsø.

She secured gold in 1:19:40 to pip Italy's Alba De Silvestro and Ana Alonso Rodriguez of Spain who finished in 1:20:56 and 1:21:04 respectively.

Harrop currently sits on 1,005 points while Giulia Murada of Italy follows close behind on 984 and Frenchwoman Axelle Gachet Mollaret occupies third with 916.

With 100 points on offer for victory in the final race, it is all to play for.

"It's so cool to win my first individual in this place, I'm so happy," said Harrop.

"It was a great course in excellent conditions.

"I tried to be strategic, to manage my effort and then in the second half of the race, I was able to make a gap."

The World Cup season is set to conclude tomorrow with the sprint race in both the men's and women's divisions.
