Brooks Koepka holds a four-shot lead after play on day three of golf’s Masters Tournament ended early after heavy rain led to the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia becoming unplayable.

With parts of the course flooded, the hooter sounded at 3.15pm local time with the leading group having completed six holes of their third-round.

Earlier in the day, the second-round was completed, after yesterday’s action was ended early when three trees fell on the course in strong winds.

Koepka held a two-shot lead at the end of round two, after shooting a 67 in the second-round, which he had been able to complete yesterday before the stoppage.

In round three the American made a birdie on the second and pars on the five other holes he completed before the interruption, to sit at 13-under-par.

Spain’s Jon Rahm is in second place, as he was at the end of round two, which he completed today and shot a 69.

Rahm’s second-round concluded in unpredictable fashion, as he finished with two birdies and two bogeys in his last four holes.

In his third-round, Rahm birdied the second hole, but bogeys for the Spaniard on the fourth and fifth dropped him to back to nine-under-par before the suspension.

Sam Bennett, an American amateur, is in third place at six-under-par, although the 2022 US Amateur champion had a difficult start to his third-round as he bogeyed his first two holes.

In a four-way tie for fourth place at five-under-par, a shot further back are Americans Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa, a two-time major champion, alongside Britain’s Matt Fitzpatrick, the current US Open champion and Norway’s Viktor Hovland.

Among the notable names to miss the cut at the end of the second-round earlier today were 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett from England, and major winners Bryson DeChambeau of the United States and last year’s Masters runner-up Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland.

Despite the weather disruption on days two and three, organisers say they are hopeful the tournament will still finish tomorrow as scheduled.

Play is due to resume at 8.30am local time, with organisers planning to use a two tee start for the final round in an effort to make up time.
