Italy's Aaron March and Nadya Ochner edged past the men's parallel slalom winner Andreas Prommegger and Sabine Schoefmann of Austria to win the mixed parallel slalom title at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia.

The duo won the first World Championship medals in their careers, with Italy winning an event for the first time since 2015, when Roland Fischnaller triumphed in the men's parallel slalom.

"I rode really good," said March, who lost to Prommegger in the men's parallel slalom at the quarter-final stage.

"But it was easier being the first, just go and maybe be some behind or in front, but Nadya did really a great job because as second you have more pressure to close it."

Ochner added that the victory felt "incredible."

"I was on the start, I thought, I want to do this for me and for Aaron, he did a great job.

"I knew it would be hard, so I fought until the last gate."

Switzerland's Julie Zogg and Dario Caviezel took the final podium spot after winning the small final against the other Italian pair of Maurizio Bormolini and Lucia Dalmasso.

Bormolini is first in the parallel slalom world rankings, but has not been able to earn a medal at this competition so far.

The Championships in Bakuriani are scheduled to continue until March 5.
