Norway will be the team to beat as Slovenia is set to host its first-ever International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Nordic Ski World Championships at the Planica Nordic Centre.

Scheduled to be held until February 5, ski jumping, Nordic combined and cross-country skiing events are all set to take place starting tomorrow.

Beijing 2022 individual champion Johannes Høsflot Klæbo will be spearheading the Norwegian challenge in Slovenia while world and Olympic champion Jonna Sundling will be the one to beat in the women's sprint.

For the hosts, Nika Križnar, Peter Prevc, and Timi Zajc will be eyeing the mixed team title after clinching gold in Beijing.

After recent wins in the Ski Jumping World Cup circuit, Ryōyū Kobayashi of Japan will be among the favourites for the men's title.

World Cup leaders Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway and Poland's Dawid Kubacki will provide stiff competition for the Japanese.

Among women, Austrian World Cup leader Eva Pinkelnig will be hoping to continue her fine form in Planica.

Meanwhile, another Norwegian and defending world champion Gyda Westvold Hansen, will be hoping for back-to-back titles with competition from compatriots and world medallists Mari Leinan Lund and Marte Leinan Lund.

But with nine wins in nine World Cup events, beating Hansen seems impossible at the moment.

In the men’s individual Gundersen event, defending champion Jarl Magnus Riiber of Noway is expected to retain his title form Oberstdorf.

But World Cup leader Johannes Lamparter of Austria will try his best to upset Riiber.
