Sandra Näslund continued her domination of the Ski Cross World Cup circuit by winning her 17th competition in a row in Reiteralm in Austria today.

The Swede, the reigning Olympic champion after her gold at Beijing 2022, has now won all nine events held this term after backing up her victory in the first event at Crosspark Reiteralm yesterday.

She only lost one race last season - in December 2021 when Canada's Marielle Thompson won gold in Arosa in Switzerland after a crash took Näslund out of contention.

Her dominance means she is closing in on winning the overall Ski Cross World Cup title for the fourth time as she has earned the maximum 900 points on offer.

With only 500 points left available, she is 426 points in front of Thompson who lies second.

Näslund now boasts 37 World Cup wins in all and no athlete can boast an undefeated streak as long as hers across any of the skiing disciplines.

Sonja Gigler of Austria was second today, her best ever finish, with Jole Galli of Italy ending third for a maiden podium place.

Thompson finished 13th after exiting in the earlier rounds.

The race was the last World Cup event before the Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships which are due to begin in Bakuriani in Georgia on Sunday (February 19).

Twenty-six-year-old Näslund will be looking to defend the world title she won on home snow in Idre in 2021, and win it for the third time in all.

In the men's race today, Jonas Lenherr of Switzerland won for the first time this season and the fourth time in his career.

Ollie Davies of Britain earned silver as Tyler Wallasch of the United States came third, with both earning their first World Cup medals.

Canada's Reece Howden finished ninth but continues to lead the overall standings.

The Youth Olympic champion from 2016 sits on 536 points, a 97-point-lead over Sweden's David Mobärg who won the first race in Reiteralm yesterday.

Mobärg was fourth today to miss out on back-to-back podiums.
