India and Pakistan claimed victories as group action continued at the International Cricket Council Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

In the first of the day’s double-header at Six Gun Grill Newlands in Cape Town, West Indies opted to bat first against India, compiling 118 for six off their 20 overs.

The innings featured a partnership of 73 between Stafanie Taylor, who top scored with 42 and Shemaine Campbelle, who made 30.

West Indies lost three wickets for as many runs as their innings faltered, with Deepti Sharma taking three wickets for 15 runs, as she became the first Indian woman to take 100 wickets in T20 internationals.

In reply, India kept themselves in front of the required run rate and chased down their target with 11 balls to spare, with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh top scoring with an unbeaten 44 off 32 deliveries.

Ghosh, who impressed during the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, put on a partnership with 73 with captain Harmanpreet Kaur as India won by six wickets and secured a second successive victory in Group Two.

In the second game of the day, Pakistan ran out comfortable winners against Ireland thanks to a century from Muneeba Ali.

Ali made 102 off 68 balls, including 14 fours, as Pakistan made 165 for five batting first.

The wicketkeeper registered a maiden T20 international hundred, which included a partnership of 101 with Nida Dar, who made 33.

In reply Ireland were bowled out for 95, losing regular wickets throughout an innings were Orla Prendergast top scored with 31.

Nashra Sundhu was the pick of Pakistan’s bowlers with four wickets for 18 as Pakistan wrapped up victory by 70 runs, to register their first win of the tournament.

One match is scheduled tomorrow with holders Australia looking to register a third straight win in the tournament against winless Bangladesh at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
