The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine has released a new video calling for a boycott of any sporting events where Russian athletes participate.

During the two minute video released on Twitter by the MFA of Ukraine, it highlights that Russian and Belarusian athletes were suspended from international competitions at the start of the invasion of Ukraine.

It then goes on to ask "what caused such a change in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) position", after the IOC said it was "exploring a pathway" for athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete under "strict conditions" of neutrality.

The MFA’s video also highlighted that "a significant number of Russian athletes are servicemen of the Russian Army" and asked "does the IOC suggest Ukrainians compete with the occupiers and war criminals?"

The video then concluded with the message "we call on the world to boycott any sports events with any Russian participation."

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also tweeted that he believed that "Russia ruins fair play."

"The goal of the Olympic Movement, as per the Olympic Charter, is to promote sport ‘in a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play'" Kuleba wrote.

"Russia ruins not only fair play, but also lives of Ukrainian athletes.

"The real fair play is to ban Russian athletes from the Olympic Games."

IOC President Thomas Bach spoke on the subject while attending the Alpine Skiing World Championships last weekend, saying that the organisation "shared the suffering" of Ukrainian athletes, while adding that "with regard to participation of athletes we have to accomplish our peace mission and that is a unifying mission of bringing people together."
