Jami won gold in the female cadet under-55 kilograms category, after defeating Egypt’s Nesma Ahmed Shehata Abdel Samee at the tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

In a message on its Facebook page the THF wrote of Jami: "Your hard work and dedication have been an inspiration to us all. We are so proud of you!"

The THF also offered encouragement to taekwondo refugee athletes that are competing around the world, while highlighting refugee competitors who featured at the Fujairah Open.

Mahdi Mohammadi, Wael Al-Farraj and Yahya Al-Gouthani also competed at the Fujairah Open as refugee athletes.

Officially established in 2016 the THF aims to send teams of taekwondo coaches to refugee camps, to help refugees gain superior physical fitness, and learn values include self-defence and self-belief.
