It is the governing body's official game and has been released on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop in more than 60 countries.

There are more than 300 characters to choose from as players can assemble their team of batters, catchers and pitchers to compete in online games against opponents from around the world.

"The strong and dynamic partnership between the WBSC and Konami has hit another home run with the launch of this exciting new videogame," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.

"It is testament to our commitment to innovation and connecting with both baseball fans and gamers alike through digital platforms.

"The WBSC continues to lead from the forefront when it comes to esports as we further expand the footprint of our newest discipline to both reach, and make our sport relevant to, new audiences globally."

The global release launches at $0.99 (£0.80/€0.92) and be played locally with up to four players on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation, as well as single players online.

It is the latest title in the Powerful Puroyakyu series which has sold more than 24 million copies since the first release in 1994.

It features characters from the series and is said to be perfect for newcomers and experienced gamer with its "authentic and in-depth strategy gameplay which recreates baseball in all its tactical and technical aspects."

"We are very pleased to launch our global eSport initiative with the WBSC through the release of WBSC eBaseball: Power Pros," said Konami President Hideki Hayakawa.

"We would like to continue to support the development of the baseball and softball communities around the world through gaming, utilising the know-how we have accumulated through our esport initiatives."

The game follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Konami and the WBSC last year.

Previous versions of Konami's baseball title have already featured in esports events, including the inaugural edition of the Olympic Virtual Series.
