Men's overall leader Halvor Egner Granerud and German home favourite Katharina Althaus earned victories on the first day of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Ski Jumping World Cup in Willingen.

Norway's Granerud earned his third consecutive victory on the circuit with jumps of 149.5 metres and 138.0m on the Mühlenkopfschanze large hill, yielding 155.6 and 141.0 points respectively for a total of 296.6

Anže Lanišek of Slovenia was second with 150.0m and 138.0m jumps, scoring 149.8 and 144.1 for 293.9 overall.

Poland's Dawid Kubacki took third place with 281.3 from jumps of 147.0m and 137.0m, and his compatriot Piotr Żyła was fourth with 265.1 from 137.0m and 138.0m.

Althaus earned her fifth victory of the season in Willingen in the women's large hill event, climbing from third after a first jump of 133.0m scored 117.8.

A stunning second attempt of 149.5m scored 146.6, giving her a total of 264.4.

Ema Klinec of Slovenia led at the halfway stage on 120.7 from 137.5m, but could only respond to Althaus with a 146.5m effort to score 135.6 for an overall score of 256.3.

Japan's Sara Takanashi completed the podium with 245.7 from 139.0m and 141.5m jumps.

Yellow bib holder Eva Pinkelnig of Austria had to settle for 10th with 210.2 from jumps of 129.5m and 126.0m.

Pinkelnig continues to hold a comfortable lead with 1,122 points, followed by Althaus with 971.

Norway's Anna Odine Strøm is third on 797 after an 11th-place finish in Willingen.

In the men's standings, Granerud has 1,416 points to give him a healthy lead over Kubacki on 1,264, with Lanišek also into four-figure points on 1,070.

Willingen is due to host another men's and women's large hill World Cup tomorrow.
