Reem Ahmed Salama from Egypt is one of the home athletes set to fight for gold having came through the rounds in the women's under-50 kilogram category.

She defeated Ukraine's Yuliia Palashevska and Nagham Yasser of Egypt to set up a showdown against Yorgelis Salazar of Venezuela, the winner of the semi-final match against Ukrainian Kateryna Kryva.

Salma Hassan made it two-for-two for the hosts in women's finals, beating her compatriot Ahlam Youssef in the under-55kg semi-finals.

Hassan's final opponent is Anna Protsenko of Ukraine, who joined her following a victory over Madina Sadigova of Azerbaijan.

Two more Egyptian berths came in men's competition, the first coming in the under-60kg.

Mohamed Gaber defeated Italian Danilo Greco, with his last opponent being Kaisar Alpysbay of Kazakhstan - the winner of the other semi-final against Aminagha Guliyev from Azerbaijan.

Abdalla Hesham Abdelgawad was the other home favourite vying for gold, making the men's under-75kg final with victories over Lorenzo Pietromarchi of Italy and Farid Aghayev of Azerbaijan.

He is to face another Italian on Sunday, Daniele De Vivo, who won today against Kazakhstan's Beibarys Zhangbyr and Italy's Ezzat Mohey Ahmed El Sharaby.

The only kumite final confirmed today to not feature an Egyptian is in the men's under-67kg.

Dionysios Xenos of Greece defeated Didar Amirali of Kazakhstan to make it into the fight for gold, along with Olympic champion Steven Da Costa of France, the winner of the semi-final with Hiroki Nakano of Japan.

Finally, the women's kata final is to feature Olympic bronze medallist Grace Lau Mo-sheung from Hong Kong and Olympic silver medallist Kiyou Shimizu of Japan.

Lau defeated Egyptian Aya Hesham and Maho Ono of Japan in the latter stages; while Shimizu was victorious against Italian Terryana D'Onofrio and compatriot Hikaru Ono to make the final.
