The Commonwealth Games Wales (CGW) Board has begun the search for new members of its Athletes' Commission to mark 200 days to go until Trinidad and Tobago 2023.

The Caribbean country is set to host the Commonwealth Youth Games this year from August 4 to 11 for athletes aged 14 to 18.

The Board aims for the Commission to be a diverse group who have represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games.

Applications will be accepted up until February 10 before a selection panel made up of CGW Board members, staff and independent individuals work though the nominations and interview the shortlist before successful candidates are announced in March.

"It's great to kick off the new year with just 200 days to go until Team Wales compete on the Commonwealth stage once again, and especially so soon after the success we had in Birmingham last summer," said CGW chief executive Rebecca Edwards-Symmons.

"The Athletes' Commission has proved during previous cycles how valuable their input is in decision making for us, and it's wonderful how their voice really does shape decisions for Team Wales.

"The passion from CGW Board emphasising the importance of giving athletes a platform will undoubtedly help guide and develop the new cohort of individuals.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the new athletes in due course.

"I've been in post for a little over a month and I can't wait to get stuck in and plan for an exciting future."

The Commission is set to make key decisions for Trinidad and Tobago 2023 and the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Trinidad and Tobago is due to host the event for the first time in its history with Fast5 netball, rugby sevens, triathlon, swimming, beach volleyball, track and road cycling, athletics, and Para athletics on the programme.

Para athletics will make its debut at the event, with discus, long jump and the 100m scheduled.
