Olympic and world women’s monobob champion Kaillie Humphries earned her second International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup win of the season at the German venue of Altenberg, while home slider Johannes Lochner secured a hat-trick of two-man bob victories.

The 37-year-old from Calgary, who won two-woman bob gold at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics for Canada before winning the Beijing 2022 monobob title and the two-woman world titles in 2020 and 2021 for the United States, came from behind for victory.

She came from behind after home slider Laura Nolte, gold medallist in the two-woman event at Beijing 2022, set a track record of 58.80sec, almost seven tenths of a second faster that Humphries.

But an inspired second-run of 58.97 gave victory to the United States athlete by a margin of 0.55 seconds in a time of 1min 57.92sec.

Third place went to Canada’s Cynthia Appiah, who was 0.94 seconds behind the winner.

Humphries, who has reached the podium in all five World Cup races this season, thus increased her overall lead in the rankings on 1070 points, with Nolte second on 1020 and Germany’s Lisa Buckwitz third on 946.

Lochner, the Olympic silver medallist in both the two and four-man bob, was partnered by Georg Fleischhauer as he set the fastest times in the first and second runs to finish in 1:49.20, 0.44sec ahead of the British pairing of Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence.

Francesco Friedrich, two-time Olympic and seven-time world champion in two-man bobsleigh, finished third with Alexander Schueller, 1.06sec behind.
