The Organising Committee for the Lake Placid 2023 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Winter World University Games has revealed the jackets that are to be worn by medal presenters during ceremonies at the event later this month.

This coincided with the Torch Relay reaching New York City's Rockefeller Center Skating Rink, one of 15 stops on the tour around New York State and the surrounding areas.

Torchbearers on this leg included the skaters from Figure Skating in Harlem, who are due to perform during the Lake Placid 2023 figure skating exhibition gala on January 16.

The medal presenters jackets are to be worn during 85 medal ceremonies at the Games.

Students from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City designed the jackets, which were produced by Karbon, with an eye on making them durable and made out of recycled fabrics and insulation as part of the Games sustainability pledge.

When the Cauldron is lit in Lake Placid on the day of the Opening Ceremony - January 12 - it is to be the first carbon-free Cauldron in FISU history.

The Games are scheduled to end on January 22, with 540 universities expected to participate from 46 countries.

Alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, freestyle and freeski, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, snowboarding, ski jumping and speed skating are all on the sports programme.
