UEFA and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) have signed an operational agreement on "the mutual recognition of coaching qualifications and competences and a technical agreement for coach development".

The agreement sets out the minimum requirements and the procedure for UEFA's recognition of coaching certifications in line with CONMEBOL's coaching convention and vice-versa.

Currently there is a focus on the UEFA pro licence, A licence, and goalkeeper A licence courses.

"The technical agreement outlines the principles of cooperation and aims to harmonise many of the criteria for coach education and development," read a UEFA statement.

"As a result, in addition to agreeing to exchange best practices and regularly inform each other on matters relating to coach education, UEFA and CONMEBOL will standardise minimum key requirements such as admission criteria and the standards, duration and content of all diploma courses delivered under their respective coaching conventions.

"Exchanges will also be organised between coach educators and coaches, as well as conferences, workshops and webinars."

The agreement comes as a result of the continued cooperation between the two continental governing bodies.

The partnership aimed for the pair to collaborate more closely on women's football, futsal, youth football, the exchange of referees and technical training schemes.

It was announced in September last year and headlined with the return of the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions, also known as the Finalissima.

The match is played by the winners of the European Championship and Copa América international tournaments.

The agreement currently covers three editions of this fixture and also included the opening of a joint office in London.

Recent World Cup winners Argentina prevailed in the match 3-0 against Italy last June at Wembley Stadium.

It was the third edition of the event and La Albiceleste's second triumph after their penalty shootout win against Denmark in 1992.

France beat Uruguay 2-0 in the inaugural game in 1985.
