A total of 48 athletes from 19 different sports participated in the event, which covered topics such as nutrition, sports supplementation and abuse in sport.

In attendance were athletes from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, rower Felipe Klüver and middle-distance runner María Pía Fernández.

Fernández competed at the Games in the women's 1,500 metres, but did not make it out of the heats.

She is the South American outdoor and indoor champion from 2019 and 2020.

Klüver and Bruno Cetraro represented Uruguay in the men's lightweight double sculls, but finished last in their heat.

Both athletes joined the forum to discuss their experiences and sporting careers at an elite level.

The National Forum of Youth Athletes was held at the headquarters of the UOC in Montevideo.

Uruguay has only won 10 medals at the Olympic Games, with its only two golds coming at its first two entries at Paris 1924 and Amsterdam 1928 courtesy of its men's football teams.

Its last medal was won by cyclist Milton Wynants in the men's points race at Sydney 2000, ending a 36-year drought without a podium spot.
