The South Paris Arena 6 and Lille's Stade Pierre-Mauroy have been confirmed as the handball venues for the 2024 Olympic Games in the French capital.

South Paris Arena 6 is part of the Paris Expo, an exhibition and convention centre that is one the most active in Europe.

Across its 35-hectare site and 228,000 square metres of exhibition halls and eight pavilions, the Expo welcomes more than 7.5 million tourists each year and as a result is the most visited attraction of its kind in France.

It is due to stage the preliminary phases of the Paris 2024 competitions and is also hosting weightlifting before goalball at the Paralympics.

For handball, it is due to have a capacity of 7,300 to 7,800 people.

The knockout phases in the men's and women's tournaments are scheduled to take place in the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Opened in 2012, it has a retractable roof, a seating capacity of 50,186, and is home to football team Lille OSC who were Ligue 1 champions in 2021.

As well as football, it has also staged handball, basketball, tennis and rugby events in the past.

It hosted three matches at the 2017 International Handball Federation Men's World Championship, setting a record of 28,010 spectators at the quarter-final between France and Sweden, which was won by the hosts on their way to lifting the trophy.

The Stade Pierre-Mauroy is also due to host basketball matches at Paris 2024 following lengthy negotiations.

It was ultimately approved as a venue due to "its history of hosting major international competitions".

The arena set a record attendance for a basketball match in Europe with 27,372 spectators at the EuroBasket final in 2015.
